Story

On the edge of a metropolitan city, exists a castle which is surrounded by a high wall and is also the kingdom that Ruha rules over.Including herself, there are 3 people who live in this kingdom, the other 2 being protagonist Hayato and his mother.  Hayato works as a butler and also as a chef – he prepares meals, does the washing, works on the garden and also goes to school as Ruha’s attendant. He thought that his normal life would never change, but he was wrong and as summer vacation approaches, what will happen to him now…

This game has a pretty good, yet surprisingly short common route which sets the scene and mood for the game, as well as letting you to get to know the characters. There’s also some quite good humour in the common route, although it wasn’t as funny as something like Renai 0 Kilometer. The routes themselves are very character based and do have some kind of plotline. My favourite route was probably Nozomi’s but that’s because i really loved her character and her route had a decent amount of drama as well as some adorable scenes. Ruha’s and Midori’s routes were both also good, although i really got annoyed at some parts of Misao’s story (even though some scenes were really cute and funny). Since this is my first eroge from pulltop i wasn’t disappointed with this game. However, i think people who have seen what Pulltop can accomplish (Haruka ni Aogi, Uruwashi no seems to have the best scores) probably would be disappointed with this game since it’s really only a high-tier chara-ge (not like there is anything wrong with that).

Characters

Haruka Ruha

Ruha is the queen of the Falkensleben Kingdom ever since her parents died. She is a popular queen and a lot of people like her due to the fact that she’s down-to-earth. She does have trouble getting up in the morning and doesn’t usually get up until Hayato steals her favourite teddy bear. She’s childhood friends with model Hiromi. She’s also got a cat allergy.

Ruha is so cute! I also wouldn’t mind having her as a queen. She needs to get herself a proper crown though. Before starting the game, i thought she’d be a tsundere ojou-sama but i was wrong.

Kunitomo Miori

Miori is the classmate of Hayato who is from a well-known family. She is very popular amongst the female students and has been confessed to before. Miori can be pretty cold at times but she’s really just socially awkward and doesn’t know what to say, even if she tries her best to make friends. Her and Ruha do argue sometimes though. She’s also a member of the student council.

Miori was probably my least favourite character, although she was cute when she got all embarrassed and flustered.

Sanemaki Nozomi

Nozomi is a transfer student to Hayato’s class and she’s also the granddaughter of the school principal. She’s from a rich family and so lives in a large mansion with lots of maids. Nozomi is quite outgoing and makes friends easily. She has a love of insects and creepy crawlies, with her favourite being a large spider, this freaks everyone out when they go to her house.

Nozomi is mine!!! She’s the perfect ojou-sama and that white dress makes her look so angelic too! So cute! Hau~Omochikaeri! Her attendant/personal driver Kyouko is HILARIOUS.

Kashimura Misao

Misao is a classmate of Hayato’s and is a very outgoing and friendly girl whose family own a bakery. Misao is also a good baker and works part-time at the bakery. She’s also into sports and is part of the school’s volleyball team.

Misao is the only “normal girl” in the game, which is refreshing. Her route was also quite good and oddly enough, had a similar drama style to the other routes. Most of her route dragged a little though since it was mostly her practising volleyball and then staying over at Ruha’s mansion.

Artwork

I absolutely love the artwork in this game – it’s got a lovely style and has a slightly softer shading style than usual, which i really appreciated. There was also lots of lovely cgs to look at. The character sprites were also of very very high quality and each character had enough poses and outfits (in my opinion). The SD art was also really cute and funny and in plentiful supply. Backgrounds were pretty detailed as well. This is definitely a cg set to get if you like collecting those. This level of art quality was really unexpected since the artist hasn’t worked on any eroge since 2004.

Music

Song: Anthem For Kingdom by Shimotsuki Haruka

The opening song is really nice and portrays the calming and relaxing mood of the game really well. The rest of the BGM was pretty good too, with the majority of tracks being really lovely,  there was also not a shortage of BGM and nothing felt repetitive. However, there were a few tracks which weren’t all that good as well. The vocal cast did a really good job and i liked everyone’s voice. The student council president (Suzuka) had a particularly great voice.

System

The system in Shinsei ni Shite Okasubekarazu was very simple, yet clean and pleasant to look at. The background of the title was nice and i like that blue pattern .  The textbox was also easy to read and that gold edges gave it a regal feel, which i really liked.  The only unusual thing about this game was the after stories that became available after you completed a heroine’s story. They were like little epilogues and were very cute, basically you just clicked on the heroine’s picture once you reached that page to begin the after story.

Final Thoughts

Shinsei ni Shite Okasubekarazu is definitely a high-tier chara-ge with pretty likeable characters and some well written routes. This is also the most relaxing eroge that i’ve played so far. If you’re looking for a calming game with beautiful artwork and you happen to like ojou-samas then this is the game for you. Please note, however, that Nozomi is MINE! I have claimed her and she has definitely reserved her space on my harem (i will get around to making a list…eventually xD).

Also, Pulltop have put up a preview page for their newest eroge, the full webpage will be up later this month. The windmills remind me of Irotoridori no Sekai.

  1. Before anyone else does, I’ll claim Ruha even though I haven’t played the game!

I love the lovely art as well, but the characters only get a 15?

I heard Bra-ban is one of Yuzusoft’s weaker titles, so good luck with that.

    • I really did want to score the characters higher but i found Miori to be pretty annoying at the start, Plus, i didn’t like Misao as much as i’d expected and Ruha turned into an annoying character during Misao’s route.

I’m actually liking it so far, although if i started with the weaker of their titles then it means i won’t be disappointed with their later games :D.

  2. pretty sure this was one of the branches that willplus ‘reconfigured’… i think they change the artist for Pulltop’s next game.

was reading shinsei’s reviews on EGS a month ago – seemed to be fairly average to below average for Pulltop, so i held back from buying when i was in japan. i think i want to at least do the common route then, seeing it’s quite short like u said.

and haruka ni aogi uruwashino – one of the most beautiful pieces ive ever had the chance to read.

    • Oh no! I really wish they’d keep this artist since he did an amazing job.

I’ve not played any other pulltop eroge so i can’t compare but the common route is fun to play, and so are most of the character routes too.
I really need to get around to playing that, the opening song is really great too.

  3. Seems like a fine game. I’ll give it a try 😉

But bra-ban was so much a pain in the ass… Probably the worst title I played (after love-bride eve), the humor is not fun. Actually, I only smiled at the first 15 secondes and after that… Boring. It’s not fun, and the same thing happen again, again…

Tae’s route give me a headache, I was not able to finish her route…

Only Yuki’route was worth it. So, if you have to choose go for Yuki 🙂 (and maybe Sumi’s route too).

    • Some of the jokes are quite funny, but i agree that they do get repetitive. I’ve just finished Yuki’s route and would say that it was good, although it felt a little rushed as the romance is all in the last week or so of the game. Is Tae’s route really that bad? She’s one of the reasons that i picked this game D:
Since the routes are really quite short, i’ll probably just finish them all though. I may regret this later xD

  4. This game looks like a winner. All the heroines sound good and the CGs have this nice soft touch to them. The SDCGs look great as well. Looks like this will be the second game you’ve enticed me to play (after LovelyxCation)

  5. Hi Liemyx

I was trying to write in the box on the poll but its restricted to 50~ charas so ill just write it here instead.

“hmm I think more concise reviews, actually it’s already pretty good in this area.

so the only thing is more recommendations and less review.

because writers have to write in a way that is also entertaining to read, try to write it as a flamboyant and super-enthusiastic recommendation or a kick-back Stay-the-Hell-away(!) disapproval. I think people are more interested in reading what you think if you have your own style or flair your own flavour to your reviews.”

I mean that is not to say that you don’t weigh the good from the bad so that we can decide if it suits our taste. (or you can ignore that too~~ depends on your flavour)

one of the most common complaints from video game reviewers I often hear is if they have to write a piece on something they felt mediocre towards (i.e. neither good nor bad, just average). cause those games are Hard to write on because they can’t do anything interesting with it.

    • Thank you for the comment, i can definitely see where you’re coming from, i’ll try to incorperate your points into my upcoming reviews, i don’t seem to do much recommending (now that i think about it). Although both of the games i’ll be reviewing next are average at best xD
